Brief history of COVE

  • November 1980 ~ First meeting held to discuss help for survivors
  • Organized as “Carbon County Victim Advocates, ”offered a hotline staffed by volunteers, who also took care of fundraising, publicity, and volunteer recruitment
  • September 1981 ~ Became an independent agency
  • Within the year (1981), CCVA had a two-room shelter and an office in the Carbon Building
  • In 1986, the name was changed to Citizens Organized to see Violence Ended, Inc.
  • In the early 1990's, a community block grant - in cooperation with the City of Rawlins - made COVE's current shelter location possible
