Brief history of COVE

  • November 1980 ~ First meeting to discuss help for survivors
  • Organized as “Carbon County Victim Advocates” and had a volunteer hotline, and took care of fundraising, publicity, and volunteer recruitment
  • Became an independent agency in September 1981
  • Within the year (1981) CCVA had a two room shelter and an office in the Carbon Building
  • In 1986, the name was changed to Citizens Organized to See Violence Ended
  • A community block grant in coorperation with the city in the early 1990’s made our current shelter location possible
