About Domestic Violence


There are many types of Domestic Violence including:

  • Physical Abuse
  • Emotional/Mental Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse

Specific incidents may include, but are not limited to:

  • Pushing, Shoving
  • Strangling
  • Locking a person out, or blocking the door
  • Kicking
  • Abandoning a person in a place
  • Throwing objects
  • Threatening harm
  • Using a knife or a gun
  • Driving recklessly with a passenger
  • Hair Pulling
  • Threatening or harassing language
  • Ridiculing, Humiliating, Insulting, or Embarrassing you
  • Ignoring or withholding affection or approval
  • Criticizing
  • Abusing pets to hurt a family member
  • Intimidation
  • Controlling finances
  • Extreme jealousy
  • Isolation
  • Forcing of unwanted sexual acts
  • Insisting on unwanted or uncomfortable touching
  • Committing rape or incest
  • Treating others as sex objects
  • Making demeaning sexually suggestive remarks
The aim of domestic violence, no matter the type, is to assert power and control over another person.

Domestic violence usually increases in severity over time.
