There are many types of Domestic Violence including:

  • Physical Abuse
  • Emotional/Mental Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse

Specific incidents may include, but are not limited to:

  • Pushing, shoving
  • Strangling
  • Locking a person out or blocking the door
  • Kicking
  • Abandoning a person somewhere
  • Throwing objects
  • Threatening harm
  • Using a knife or a gun
  • Driving recklessly with a passenger
  • Hair pulling
  • Threatening or harassing language
  • Ridiculing, humiliating, insulting, or embarrassing a person
  • Ignoring or withholding affection or approval
  • Criticizing
  • Abusing pets to hurt a family member
  • Intimidation
  • Controlling finances
  • Extreme jealousy
  • Isolation
  • Forcing of unwanted sexual acts
  • Insisting on unwanted or uncomfortable touching
  • Committing rape or incest
  • Making demeaning¬†remarks
The aim of domestic violence, no matter the type, is to assert power and control over another person.

Domestic violence usually increases in severity over time.
